Broadway School of Music and the Arts
The Broadway School of Music and the Arts is a dynamic community arts learning center featuring instrumental music instruction, group arts classes, a year round public series of student and faculty recitals, and guest artist concerts. Broadway School is committed to enriching the lives of people by providing access to high-quality, diverse arts and music instruction and programming. Just ten minutes southeast of downtown Cleveland, the school is accessible by bus and from all major highways and boasts a free parking lot adjacent to the school. For most private lessons, physically challenged students may be accomodated on the first floor of the school. Concerts and performances feature faculty and local artists. The Broadway School of Music & the Arts is located in a landmark building that originally housed the Hruby Conservatory of Music (1918-1968) and is prominently positioned in the Broadway Historic District of Cleveland's Slavic Village area. Through the years, the Conservatory served thriving Polish and Bohemian/Czech neighborhoods economically dependent upon the area's steel mills. Ten years after the Conservatory closed its doors, the building was purchased by Dr. Nicholas Demmy and his wife Olean, who lovingly restored it and guided the establishment of the Broadway Branch of the Cleveland Music School Settlement in 1980. In 1983, the organization became an independent non-profit, and later the building was sold to a private individual. The Broadway Branch of the Cleveland Public Library is located on the building's first floor.
Broadway School of Music and the Arts is a member of Cleveland Arts Education Consortium (CAEC).
